Students are considered domestic if they have:
- Canadian Citizenship
- Dual Citizenship with Canada
- Canadian Permanent Residency
If the above doesn't apply, the student is considered international.

Applicants must submit the online application and all required admissions materials no later than the stated deadlines to be considered for admission. Admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis.

The MS in Health Informatics program is only available to Canadian residents at this time.

  • The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), recognizes our program for its comprehensive focus on the interdisciplinary study of the design, development, adoption, and application of information, data, and technology-driven innovations in healthcare.
  • This is a joint collaboration between the Bouvé College of Health Sciences and the Khoury College of Computer Sciences.
  • Faculty are senior leaders in the field.
  • Coursework provides an academic pathway to the PhD in Personal Health Informatics.
  • A research capstone project allows students to make an active contribution to the field.
  • Nearly 100% of graduates are employed within three months of graduation.

Career Outlook

  • Employment in British Columbia’s healthcare sector hit a new high of 286,300 in 2021. Since 2011, employment in the sector rose by more than 80,000 jobs—increasing its share of the province’s total employment to 10.8% (Job Bank, 2025).
  • British Columbia is expected to have over one million new job openings between 2022 and 2032. Nearly 80% of these require some form of postsecondary education or training, and thousands will be in occupations with higher demand and pay (WorkBC, 2022).
  • Northeastern students in Vancouver have completed co-ops or full-time placements at local companies including TELUS Health, Providence Health Care, Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), Fraser Health, and SAP.

Nevertheless, prospective students are responsible for satisfying themselves that the program and the degree will be appropriate to their needs (for example, acceptable to potential employers, professional licensing bodies, or other educational institutions).
